Bio

Mike Dettra has been performing music of some sort all his life. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from Temple University in 2007. Since that time Mike has developed an interest in all styles of Music which strongly include Rock, Jazz, Classical, and World Music. He recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Percussion Performance at West Chester University in the Spring of 2023.

Mike is an eclectic musician involved in many different projects. He has played in various music groups since Jr. High School. He currently plays Steel Pan(Steel Drum), Marimba, Vibraphone, Drumset, Piano, and Vocals for The Dettra Mental Music Ensemble, Newtown Arts Company Musicals, The Delaware Valley Wind Symphony, The Divine Hand Ensemble, and Cairn University’s Orchestra/Wind Symphony. In addition, Mike is the Music Director for the Advent Lutheran Church in Richboro. He also plays several concerts a month for the residents and staff of Woods Services. Mike also frequently works as a freelance musician.

Mike recently wrote and recorded 4 jazz albums entitled Raison Dettra, A Dettra Christmas Album, Jazz on a Sunday, and the most recent professional studio album: Dettra Mental. They can be listened to at https://mikedettra.bandcamp.com/

Mike is currently the general music teacher at The Montessori School in Dresher, Pa

From 2009-2019 Mike ran a band program at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Southampton, Pa. He also directed and/or wrote 6 of the school’s musicals.

Mike lives in Bucks County with his wonderful wife Katie and two amazing children Will and Teddy. He is thankful each day for the precious gift that is life.
